McKee Fehl Constructors are thrilled to be working with the Mark Dunajtschik Charity and Te Whatu Ora Health NZ once again! 

The design process for a brand new 34 inpatient bed adult acute mental health unit has started, that will sit within the grounds of the Hutt Hospital site.

This community focused project will be hugely beneficial in meeting the current and future needs of the wider Wellington region.  

Although we are in the initial stages of design, we are pleased to be able to share the details below: 

Official Building Name - Mark Dunajtschik Mental Health Centre 

  • The adult mental health unit will cost around $40-$50 million.
  • The 34-bed mental health unit would be a low-rise building.
  • Construction to begin late-2023.
  • The unit is expected to open in 2026
  • The demolition of Kowhai and Pilmuir Buildings on the Hutt Hospital campus is scheduled to begin later this year.
  • Mark Dunajtschik and Dorothy Spotswood have already contributed over $50 million towards the Children’s Hospital / Te Wao Nui due to open in late 2022.
